About this exercise
Seed & Sprout is a gardening shop with a weekly newsletter. Write a prompt for the welcome email: a line starting "Subject:" with 6 words or fewer, the greeting "Hi {{first_name}}," exactly, a body of exactly 2 sentences, a line starting "Guide:" with the guide link, and the signature "Marisol, Seed & Sprout". Plain text, under 60 words, no discount or coupon.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Adding a welcome discount. The AI sees 10% off in the notes and offers it. Try: Add: "No discount, coupon or sale; none is approved."
- Long welcome copy. Welcome emails balloon into several paragraphs. Try: Say: "Body is exactly 2 sentences."
- Dropping the merge tag. The AI writes 'Hi there' or 'Hi [Name]'. Try: Say: "Greeting exactly: Hi {{first_name}},"
- Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the greeting and signature
- Sets subject and body limits
- Asks for the guide line
- Bans discounts
- Caps length and plain text
