Write three image overlay texts of six words or fewer
- For Designers
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
You're making a square social image for the Cedar & Salt autumn soup launch. Write a prompt for exactly 3 numbered overlay texts for the image, each 6 words or fewer, each different in angle, and none with a number, price or date unless it's in the approved list. No exclamation marks and no emoji. Plain text, overlay texts only.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using unapproved facts. The AI includes the $9 price or Nov 23. Try: Say: "Numbers only from the approved list."
- Over six words. The AI writes taglines. Try: Say: "Each 6 words or fewer."
- Hype and exclamation. The AI writes 'best soup ever!'. Try: Say: "No exclamation marks, emoji or superlatives."
- Wrong number of items. AI adds extra items or drops the numbering. Try: Say the exact count and show the format, like "1. Label: detail".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets count and numbering
- Sets the word cap
- Limits numbers to approved
- Bans exclamation, emoji, superlatives
- Asks for different angles
