About this exercise

Send attendees of the Larkspur webinar a thank-you email. Write a prompt for a subject of 7 words or fewer on a line starting "Subject:", a one-sentence thank-you, then exactly 3 dash bullets in the form "- Name - link" for the recording, slides and template, where the subject also contains the word "replay", and a sign-off "Tamsin". Under 80 words, plain text. Promise nothing that isn't on the list of resources.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Promising extras. The AI adds a certificate, workshop or discount from the notes. Try: Add: "Only the three resources; do not mention a certificate, workshop or discount."
  • Quoting the survey. The AI loves the 4.6 score as social proof. Try: Say: "Do not mention survey results."
  • Wrong structure. The AI writes multiple paragraphs. Try: Say: "One sentence, then exactly 3 dash bullets, then the sign-off."
  • Too many bullets. AI turns everything into long bullet lists. Try: State the bullet cap exactly.
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.
  • Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Gives the subject cap
  • Sets the structure
  • Names the three resources
  • Bans extras
  • Gives the sign-off
