Summarize what changed between two versions of a dock SOP
- For Operations and supply chain
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Staff need to know what changed in the new dock safety SOP. Write a prompt for plain text with exactly four lines starting "Changed:", "Added:", "Removed:" and "Unchanged:". Compare the two versions item by item. Items within a line are separated by semicolons. If nothing fits a line, write none. Under 100 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing a reversal. The AI skips that the driver rule flipped from stay to leave. Try: Say: "Changed = same topic, different rule; say old to new."
- Listing the log sheet as removed. The AI says the log sheet was removed with nothing replacing it. Try: Say: "Removed = old item with no replacement."
- Guessing reasons. The AI explains why each rule changed. Try: Say: "Do not guess reasons."
- Wrong lines. The AI writes a summary paragraph. Try: Quote the four labels.
- Markdown extras and long output. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings" and cap each line, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the four labels
- Defines each line
- Bans guessing reasons
- Asks for semicolons
- Asks for plain text
