Frame a stock write-off as questions for Finance
- For Operations and supply chain
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Advanced
About this exercise
Write a prompt for a memo to Finance with exactly three headings: Facts, Questions for Finance and Not decided. Facts shows the value as math. Do not say how the write-off should be booked or approved; those are Finance's calls. Under 150 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Recommending scrapping. The AI follows the ops manager's note. Try: Say: "Do not recommend scrapping or say how to book it."
- Value without math. The AI states $18,400 without the working. Try: Say: "Show the value as 640 x 28.75 = 18,400."
- Dropping the spare-part units. The AI treats all 640 as obsolete. Try: Say: "Include the possible 90 spare-part units as unconfirmed."
- Wrong headings. The AI writes its own sections. Try: Name the three headings in order.
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the headings
- Shows the value math
- Keeps to questions
- Includes the unconfirmed units
- Sets a length limit
