Post a four-line quality hold notice without guessing the cause
- For Operations and supply chain
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write a prompt for a floor notice with exactly four lines starting "HOLD:", "Where:", "Do not:" and "Release:". Do not state or guess the cause. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Guessing the cause. The AI mentions the supplier's glaze or transit damage. Try: Say: "Do not mention or guess any cause."
- Vague prohibitions. The AI writes 'do not use' without listing actions. Try: Say: "Do not: picking, shipping, moving pallets and opening cases."
- Missing identifiers. The AI leaves out the lot number or location. Try: Say: "HOLD: lot number, product and case count; Where: aisle and racks."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the four labels
- Lists the banned actions
- Names who releases
- Bans speculation
- Asks for plain text
