Summarize a software renewal and flag clauses for legal
- For Procurement

About this exercise
Procurement reviews renewals before legal sees them. Write a prompt for plain text with exactly five lines starting "Term ends:", "Notice deadline:", "Renewal price:", "Conflicts:" and "Flags for legal:". Show the date and price math. Report what the contract says and flag it; do not say what it legally means or whether to renew. Legal and the budget owner decide. Under 120 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Believing the rep's email. The AI treats 'fixed price' as the renewal price. Try: Say: "Conflicts: anything outside the contract that disagrees with it."
- Missing the minimum price. The AI shows only 7% and ignores the CPI floor. Try: Say: "The price is at least 7% more; show the math."
- Giving legal conclusions. The AI says the clauses are risky or unenforceable. Try: Say: "Flag clause names only; do not interpret them."
- Wrong lines. The AI writes a summary paragraph. Try: Quote the five labels in order.
- Markdown extras and long output. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings" and cap each line, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the five labels
- Asks for date and price math
- Checks outside claims
- Leaves interpretation to legal
- Asks for plain text
