Summarize a supplier's financial snapshot into facts, flags and asks
- For Procurement
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Advanced
About this exercise
Procurement is deciding whether to give a supplier a larger contract. Write a prompt for plain text with exactly four lines: "Facts:", "Flags:", "Ask the supplier:" and "Decision owner:". Show the revenue change as math. Report what the snapshot says and flag it; do not predict whether the supplier will fail and do not give a credit opinion. Under 110 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Predicting trouble or safety. The AI says the supplier is at risk of failing or looks fine. Try: Say: "Do not predict failure or give a credit opinion."
- Believing the delivery record. The AI says finances are probably fine because delivery is good. Try: Say: "Flag financial items on their own; delivery record is separate."
- Revenue change without math. The AI says revenue 'declined'. Try: Say: "Show the revenue change as math: 8.4 - 10.5 = -2.1 = -20.0%."
- Wrong lines. The AI writes a risk report. Try: Quote the four labels.
- Markdown extras and long output. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings" and cap each line, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the four labels
- Asks for the revenue math
- Notes unaudited data
- Bans predictions
- Asks for plain text
