About this exercise

Write the weekly hiring update for Director Hollis Grant in plain text, under 110 words, with four labeled lines: Open roles:, Pipeline:, Late items:, Need from you:. Use only the numbers in the tracker. Pipeline gives counts by stage in the order given in the tracker. Late items lists roles past their target fill date. Need from you: is one specific ask. Do not predict hires or comment on individual candidates.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Predicting. The AI says Backend should close by Dec 1. Try: Say: "Do not predict hires."
  • Missing late items. The AI skips roles past their date. Try: Say: "Late items: roles past their target fill date, with the date."
  • Vague ask. The AI says 'let me know if you have questions'. Try: Say: "Need from you: one specific ask."
  • Labels. The AI uses its own format. Try: Say: "Four labeled lines in this order."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
  • Markdown. The AI bolds words or adds headings. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
