About this exercise

Jordan Reyes just joined as an account executive and asked how they get paid. Write Jordan a short email that explains the plan in plain words, using the current plan terms, with one worked example for a $120,000 quarter showing the math. Don't use the words accelerator, attainment or quota retirement. End with this exact line: "RevOps confirms your final payout each month." Plain text, under 170 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Missing the update. The AI often uses the 12% from the plan table and misses the memo below it. Try: Add: "Use the Oct 1 update: 15% above quota."
  • Copying the jargon. The AI repeats plan words like accelerator and attainment that a new rep may not know. Try: Add: "Plain words. Don't use accelerator, attainment or quota retirement."
  • No exact closing line. The AI ends with a friendly "let me know if you have questions" instead of the line you need. Try: Add: "End with exactly: RevOps confirms your final payout each month."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 170 words" and it often lands over. Try: Cap the parts: "4 short paragraphs, each under 30 words."
  • Getting markdown. The AI bolds numbers and adds headers, which look messy in email. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headers."

What a strong prompt includes
