About this exercise

Write a prompt for follow-up questions to system owners, based only on what is missing from the notes. Plain text, at most 5 bullets starting with "- ", each beginning with the system name and a colon, ending with a question mark, under 18 words. Ask only about gaps; skip anything already answered. No intro or closing.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Asking about everything. AI asks about payroll and survey too. Try: Say: "Ask only about items marked not recorded; skip answered ones."
  • Missing system names. AI writes generic questions. Try: Say: "Each bullet starts with the system name and a colon."
  • Too many bullets. AI asks one question per field. Try: Say: "At most 5 bullets."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols when pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Too many bullets. AI lists everything it finds instead of stopping at your limit. Try: Say "at most N bullets, nothing else" and name the limit.
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
