Keep observed facts apart from staff statements in audit notes
- For Compliance and risk
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Fieldwork notes mix what the auditor saw with what staff said. Write a prompt for plain text with two labeled groups: Observed: then bullets of what the auditor saw or counted, and Stated by staff (not tested): then bullets of claims nobody has checked. At most 6 bullets in total, each under 18 words, no other text except a last line reading exactly: Statements not yet tested: followed by the number.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Mixing facts and claims. AI lists the taxi receipt as a fact because it sounds plausible. Try: Say: "Staff claims with no evidence go under Stated by staff (not tested)."
- Dropping figures. AI says 'a small difference' instead of the amounts. Try: Say: "Include the figures from the notes."
- No closing count. AI ends with its own conclusion. Try: Say: "Last line exactly: Statements not yet tested: 2"
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols when pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Too many bullets. AI lists everything it finds instead of stopping at your limit. Try: Say "at most N bullets, nothing else" and name the limit.
What a strong prompt includes

- Marks untested
