- For Sales and customer success
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write a cold email to Priya Nair from Marcus at Routewise. Use only the newest trigger event in the notes as the opener, not the old one. Line 1 is "Subject:" plus a subject of at most 5 words. The email body is under 90 words, in plain text with no bold, and asks exactly one question as the last line before the sign-off "Marcus". Do not claim any results for Routewise.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Opening on old news. The AI leads with the biggest-sounding event, the funding round. Try: Add: "Open on the newest trigger event only, not the 2024 funding."
- Quoting an unapproved stat. The AI loves a proof point and grabs the internal 11% figure. Try: Add: "Do not claim any results or statistics for us."
- Long, markdown-heavy email. The AI adds a bold subject, bullets and a long intro. Try: Add: "Plain text, body under 90 words, subject line starts with Subject:."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs long when you only give a total. Try: Cap each part, like "each line under 15 words," so the total lands well under the limit.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the trigger
- Sets the subject line
- Limits length
- Asks for one question
- Bans claims
