Write a gatekeeper call script that stays honest
- For Sales and customer success
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You are cold-calling Dave Okafor at Harlan Freight, and his assistant Priya will probably answer. Write a spoken script in plain text with exactly three labeled lines: Greet:, Ask:, Fallback:. Keep each line under 22 words. You have never spoken with Dave, so nothing may suggest he is expecting the call. Fallback must ask when Dave is easiest to reach.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Implying an appointment. The AI makes the call sound pre-arranged to get past the gatekeeper. Try: Add: "We have never spoken with Dave; nothing may suggest he expects the call."
- No clear structure. The AI writes a long dialogue with both sides. Try: Add: "Exactly three lines labeled Greet:, Ask:, Fallback:."
- Fallback with no question. The AI ends with a sign-off instead of asking about timing. Try: Add: "Fallback must ask when Dave is easiest to reach."
- Stage directions and bold. The AI adds [pause] notes and formatting. Try: Add: "Plain text. Only the spoken words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Lists the three labels
- Bans false familiarity
- Asks for timing
- Caps each line
- Names the trigger
