See present value worked out with the lecture example

Practice: Showing an example of what you want. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

Your Intro Finance course's present value example confuses you. Get exactly 3 numbered lines: the formula with the corrected numbers plugged in, the result rounded to the cent, and one sentence on why it's less than $1,000, plain text, under 70 words. Use the corrected interest rate from the professor's email.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Asking for an explanation. The AI explains the idea in general and may redo the slide's 8% example. Try: Ask for the math: "Plug the corrected numbers into the formula."
  • Missing the correction. The slide's rate and the email's correction are both in your notes. Try: Add: "Use 5% from the email, not 8%."
  • Not saying how many lines. The AI picks its own number, and it usually picks more lines than you need. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered lines."
  • Skipping the why. Numbers alone don't answer why the value shrinks. Try: Add: "End with one sentence on why it's less than $1,000."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each line: "each under 20 words."
  • Forgetting where it will be read. AI formats for a screen, with bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in your notes. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes
