Check the formality of your Spanish email
Practice: Showing an example of what you want. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
For AP Spanish, you wrote an email to a host family's grandmother, which must be formal (usted). Get exactly 4 numbered lines, one per sentence, each labeled exactly Formal or Informal using Señora Vidal's guide, then the word that decides it in quotes, plain text. Don't rewrite any sentence.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking it to check. The AI corrects the email for you, so you don't practice finding the register slip. Try: Say: "Don't rewrite. Just label each sentence."
- Not giving exact labels. Without fixed labels, the AI gives a general review of your Spanish. Try: Say: "Label each sentence exactly Formal or Informal."
- Not asking for the deciding word. A label alone doesn't show you which word broke the register. Try: Add: "Quote the word that decides it."
- Not saying how many lines. The AI picks its own number, and it usually picks more lines than you need. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered lines."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Fix the shape: "label, then one quoted word."
- Forgetting where it will be read. AI formats for a screen, with bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in your notes. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
