Get three hints on a triangle problem, not the answer
- For High school students
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
You're stuck on homework and want a tutor, not an answer. Get exactly three hints labeled Hint 1:, Hint 2: and Hint 3:, each more specific than the last, under 90 words total, plain text. Never state an angle value or the solution.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for help solving. The AI solves the problem, so you learn nothing for the test. Try: Say: "Give hints only. Never state an angle or the answer."
- No hint ladder. Without labels, hints come as one lecture. Try: Say: "Exactly three hints labeled Hint 1:, Hint 2:, Hint 3:, getting more specific."
- Ignoring your mistake. The AI may restart from scratch instead of spotting your B = C slip. Try: Add: "Point me toward the mistake in my work."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 12 words."
- Forgetting where it's going. AI formats for a screen, with bold and headings that show up as stray symbols. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for hints only
- Sets the hint count and labels
- Says never state the value
- Points to my mistake
- Sets a length limit
