About this exercise

Write the invite from Ravi to Salma. Line 1 is "Subject: ..." with under 8 words, then "Hi Salma,", list exactly 3 bullets starting with "-" for what she would commit to, add one sentence saying the beta may change and a feature may not be released, and ask for a reply by Nov 20. End with "Ravi". Plain text, under 100 words. Do not promise pricing or a release.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Selling the beta. The AI repeats "be among the first to benefit". Try: Say: "Plain and factual; do not promise a release or pricing."
  • Missing the caveat. The AI leaves out that the feature may not ship. Try: Say: "Add one sentence: it may change and may not be released."
  • Wrong bullet count. The AI adds benefits as extra bullets. Try: Say: "Exactly 3 bullets, one per commitment."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".
  • Leaving a requirement unstated. The AI follows its own defaults unless the prompt spells this out. Try: State it plainly in your prompt: the bullets are the three commitments: a feedback call every 2 weeks (30 minutes), using it with at least 5 users, and keeping it confidential.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Greeting and sign-off
  • Three commitment bullets
  • Includes the caveat
  • Gives the reply date
  • Asks for plain text
  • Caps the bullets
  • Sets a word cap
