  • For Customer success managers
  • You practice Saying who it's for
  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Intermediate

About this exercise

Write the email from Dev to Priya. Subject line first (under 8 words), "Hi Priya,", one sentence asking for an introduction to Hugo in finance, then a line "Forwardable note:" followed by 2 sentences Priya can forward as is (under 35 words, mentioning the invoice and purchase-order steps and a 15-minute call). Keep internal numbers and renewal pressure out of it. End with "Dev". Plain text, under 100 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Leaking internal numbers. The AI mentions the renewal date or the account value. Try: Say: "Keep internal numbers and renewal pressure out."
  • Forwardable note too long. The AI writes a full email to forward. Try: Say: "Two sentences, under 35 words, mentioning invoice and PO steps and a 15-minute call."
  • No introduction ask. The AI asks Priya to handle finance herself. Try: Say: "Ask for an introduction to Hugo."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".

What a strong prompt includes
