Script a 90-second renewal update for the leadership call

  • For Managers and team leads
  • You practice Asking for a format you can use
  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Intermediate

About this exercise

Write what you will say on Monday's leadership call, in three labeled lines starting "Headline:", "Numbers:" and "Ask:". Say amounts in millions (like $1.9M) with the account count. Make no prediction about the outcome. The Ask is a specific request with a timeframe. Plain text, under 100 words, written to be spoken.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Predicting close. The AI says the 3 negotiating accounts will close. Try: Say: "Make no prediction about the outcome."
  • Dropping account counts. The AI gives dollar amounts only. Try: Say: "Give each amount in millions with the account count."
  • Vague ask. The AI asks for "support". Try: Say: "Ask for a VP-level call to Ilse Brandt this week."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".
  • Leaving a requirement unstated. The AI follows its own defaults unless the prompt spells this out. Try: State it plainly in your prompt: the output has exactly three lines starting 'Headline:', 'Numbers:' and 'Ask:' and sounds like spoken language.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the three labels
  • Wants millions and counts
  • Bans predictions
  • Sets a spoken style
  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a word cap
