About this exercise

Compare the quote with the order form. Output one line per real difference, formatted "Item: quote value vs order value". Ignore differences that are only formatting or wording. After the lines, add a last line "Differences: N". Order the lines as they appear on the quote. Plain text, under 70 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Listing wording differences. The AI flags Ltd vs Limited and the date format. Try: Say: "Ignore differences that are only formatting or wording."
  • Believing the AE. The AI lists only the price. Try: Say: "Compare every field; do not rely on the AE's summary."
  • Wrong order. The AI sorts by importance. Try: Say: "Order the lines as they appear on the quote."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".
  • Leaving a requirement unstated. The AI follows its own defaults unless the prompt spells this out. Try: State it plainly in your prompt: the output has one line per real difference in the format 'Item: quote value vs order value' followed by a last line starting 'Differences:'.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Line format
  • Ignores formatting
  • Final count line
  • Quote order
  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a word cap
