Clean three people's renewal notes into one CSV

  • For Revenue operations
  • You practice Asking for a format you can use
  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Intermediate

About this exercise

Return one code block with CSV using the header customer,renewal_date,arr_usd. Dates in the notes are US month/day/year. Euro amounts convert at 1 EUR = 1.10 USD. Write dates as YYYY-MM-DD, ARR as whole dollars with no $ or commas, and leave a value empty when it is unknown. Drop churned customers and sort by renewal date, with unknown dates last. Write no more than 6 words outside the block.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Wrong header or row count. The AI adds columns such as status or sorts the header away. Try: Say: "Header exactly customer,renewal_date,arr_usd, then one row per live customer."
  • Keeping the churned customer. The AI includes every name in the list. Try: Say: "Drop churned customers."
  • Guessing the unknown date. The AI invents a date for Dovetail. Try: Say: "Leave unknown values empty; never guess."
  • Applying the maybe upsell. The AI raises Ardent's ARR by 20%. Try: Say: "Use the current ARR only."
  • Chatting around the block. The AI adds an explanation of changes. Try: Say: "One code block and at most 6 words outside it."
  • Letting the block sprawl. The AI pretty-prints and adds extra lines. Try: Say "keep the block under N lines".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Gives the header
  • Fixes date and ARR formats
  • Handles unknowns and churn
  • Sets the sort
  • Asks for one code block
  • Keeps the block short
  • Limits text outside the block
