About this exercise

Return one code block with a JSON array of action items. Each item has exactly the keys task, owner and due (due as YYYY-MM-DD). Use the latest owner and date in the thread. Include only things someone agreed to do, not questions, chatter or open decisions. The thread started Monday Nov 9, 2026. Write no more than 8 words outside the block.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the first date. The AI keeps Wednesday for the SSO cert. Try: Say: "Use the latest owner and date in the thread."
  • Turning questions into tasks. The AI adds waiving the fee or confirming the go-live date as items. Try: Say: "Only things someone agreed to do; skip questions and open decisions."
  • Writing relative dates. The AI keeps "Friday" or "next Monday" as text. Try: Say: "Convert dates to YYYY-MM-DD; the thread started Mon Nov 9, 2026."
  • Wrong keys or shape. The AI adds keys like status or priority, or returns an object. Try: Say: "A JSON array; each item has exactly the keys task, owner, due."
  • Prose around the block. The AI adds an intro and notes. Try: Say: "One code block, no more than 8 words outside it."
  • Letting the block sprawl. The AI pretty-prints and adds extra lines. Try: Say "keep the block under N lines".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the three keys
  • Asks for ISO dates
  • Says latest wins
  • Excludes chatter and questions
  • Asks for one code block
  • Keeps the block short
  • Limits text outside the block
