About this exercise

Find the earliest 60-minute slot on Tue Nov 17 that works for everyone. Output exactly 4 lines: "Slot (ET):" then one line each for "Mara (PT):", "Nils (ET):" and "Pia (London):" with the start-end times in each person's local time. Everyone works 8:00am to 6:00pm local, and Mara is blocked 9:00-10:00am PT. Plain text, under 45 words, nothing else.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Ignoring one time zone. The AI picks a time that fits ET and PT but is after 6pm in London. Try: Say: "Check all three working windows."
  • Landing on Mara's block. The AI picks 12:00-1:00pm ET, which is 9-10am PT. Try: Say: "Mara is blocked 9:00-10:00am PT."
  • Wrong direction on offsets. The AI adds 3 hours for PT instead of subtracting. Try: Say: "PT is 3 hours behind ET; London is 5 hours ahead."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".
  • Leaving a requirement unstated. The AI follows its own defaults unless the prompt spells this out. Try: State it plainly in your prompt: the output has exactly four lines starting 'Slot (ET):', 'Mara (PT):', 'Nils (ET):' and 'Pia (London):'.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the four lines
  • Gives the offsets
  • Includes working hours and block
  • Earliest slot
  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a word cap
