About this exercise

Write the weekly status for Jasper, the customer's IT admin. Exactly four lines starting "Done:", "Next:", "Risk:" and "Need from you:". Give dates. Keep internal matters out. Need from you is one item with an owner and a date. Plain text, under 80 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Leaking internal notes. The AI mentions the discount or the sponsor's mood. Try: Say: "Keep internal matters out."
  • Vague need. The AI writes "please send the information". Try: Say: "Need from you: one item with owner and date."
  • Dropping dates. The AI writes "this week" and "next week". Try: Say: "Give exact dates."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".
  • Leaving a requirement unstated. The AI follows its own defaults unless the prompt spells this out. Try: State it plainly in your prompt: the output has exactly four lines starting 'Done:', 'Next:', 'Risk:' and 'Need from you:'.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the four labels
  • Dates and owner
  • Keeps internal out
  • Caps the length
  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a word cap
