About this exercise

A slide in tomorrow's board deck makes four claims about churn. Check each one against the chart data. Write exactly one line per claim starting 'Claim 1:' to 'Claim 4:', then the label Confirmed, Wrong or Not on page, then a reason with the numbers. Plain text, each reason under 15 words, under 100 words in all.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Calling the chart fine. The AI says the claims are broadly right and never checks the 3.6% to 3.2% drop. Try: Add: "Check each claim against the data and show the numbers."
  • Guessing revenue churn. The AI invents or infers a revenue churn figure. Try: Add: "If the data doesn't cover a claim, label it Not on page."
  • Writing a paragraph review. The AI adds an intro and a list of other recommendations. Try: Add: "Exactly 4 lines starting Claim 1: to Claim 4:. No intro or notes."
  • Leaving the format to chance. The AI picks its own length and layout unless told the exact shape. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headings."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example "each line under 15 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Gives the exact labels
  • Says to use only the data
  • Shows the line shape
  • Asks for numbers in reasons
  • Caps reason length
