About this exercise
Your CFO, Rahul, wants cost per lead (CPL) by channel for Q3. Write a prompt for a markdown table with columns Channel | Spend | Leads | CPL | Flag, where Flag says "Over $55" for any channel above the target of $55 and is blank otherwise. Then one line starting "Blended CPL:" showing total spend divided by total leads. Do not average the channel CPLs. Under 90 words, no other text.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Averaging the CPLs. The AI averages four CPLs and reports $62.50. Try: Say: "Blended CPL = total spend / total leads; don't average the CPLs."
- Flagging the wrong channels. The AI flags by feel, or flags those at or under target. Try: Say: "Flag only channels above $55."
- Commentary on meetings. The AI adds a note about conversion to meetings. Try: Say: "No other text."
- Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the table columns
- Defines CPL and the flag
- Defines blended CPL
- Bans averaging CPLs
- Asks for no other text
