About this exercise

Your CEO, Farah, asked for the result of the Maplewood spring campaign. Write a prompt for exactly 3 plain-text lines: "Result:" with the real signup total, "Cost per signup:" showing the division, and "Next step:" with one action. Under 55 words. Remove duplicate signups before calculating, and don't use any number that isn't in the report.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Counting the duplicates. The AI uses 240 signups and reports $25 per signup. Try: Add: "Remove the duplicate signups before dividing."
  • Listing every next step. The AI includes all three team ideas. Try: Say: "Next step is one action only."
  • Hiding the math. A bare number can't be checked. Try: Say: "Show the division, like $6,000 / 200 = $30."
  • Missing the labels. The AI writes a short report with headings. Try: List the three labels, plain text.
  • Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the three labels
  • Removes duplicates first
  • Asks to show the division
  • Limits next step to one
  • Caps length and plain text
