About this exercise

Your pricing facts differ across three documents. Write a prompt for a markdown table with columns Item | Value | Source | Conflict?, one row per item, where Value comes from the most recently dated document that lists the item, Source names that document, and Conflict? is Yes if any document gives a different value. Then a line starting "Conflicts:" like "Conflicts: 2 of 4". Under 100 words, no other text.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Trusting the sales deck. The AI picks the deck because the team uses it. Try: Say: "Use the most recently dated document that lists the item."
  • Treating 'not listed' as a value. The AI uses 'not listed' for annual discount. Try: Say: "If the newest doc doesn't list it, use the next newest."
  • Missing conflicts. The AI marks Conflict? from the winner only. Try: Say: "Conflict is Yes if any document differs."
  • Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the columns
  • States the recency rule
  • Handles not listed
  • Defines conflict
  • Gives the count line
