About this exercise
You're auditing tracking links before a send. Write a prompt for a markdown table with columns Link # | Problem for the six links, where Problem is "Uppercase" if any utm value has a capital letter, "Missing medium" if utm_medium is absent, "Wrong campaign" if utm_campaign isn't winter-promo-2027, "Underscore" if a value uses an underscore, or "OK". If several apply, use the first in that order. End with a line "OK: N of 6". Under 80 words, no other text.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Fixing the links. The AI rewrites the broken URLs. Try: Say: "Do not fix any links; audit only."
- Missing the subtle issues. The AI skims and calls link 2 or 5 fine. Try: Say: "Check each utm value for capitals and underscores."
- Wrong table shape. The AI adds columns or sentences. Try: Name the two columns and the exact Problem words.
- Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the columns
- Lists the problem labels
- Gives the priority order
- Bans fixing
- Gives the count line
