Tell your CMO if webinar registration is on pace in one message

About this exercise

Omar, your CMO, asks if the October webinar will hit its registration goal. Write a prompt for a Slack reply in plain text under 60 words: the first line says On pace or Off pace plus the projected total, then at most 2 bullets, one with the gap to goal and one with a single decision you need from him. Project by adding the average of the last 4 days times the days left, and don't count internal signups.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Counting internal signups. The AI uses the headline total of 212. Try: Add: "Don't count the 12 internal signups."
  • Skipping the projection math. The AI says 'looks close' without projecting. Try: Add: "Project: real total + average of last 4 days x days left."
  • Offering a menu of ideas. The AI lists all three team ideas. Try: Add: "Ask for exactly one decision."
  • Writing a report. A CMO asking in Slack gets headings and sign-offs. Try: Say: "Plain text, no intro or sign-off, first line is the answer."
  • Too many bullets. AI turns everything into long bullet lists. Try: State the bullet cap exactly.
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the reader and channel
  • Puts the verdict first
  • Specifies the projection
  • Excludes internal signups
  • Limits bullets and words
