About this exercise

Write a prompt for plain text with exactly four lines: "Mon:", "Tue:", "Wed:" and "Recommend:". Each day line shows appointments / capacity = utilization, rounded to a whole percent, and how many trucks are over capacity if any. Capacity is working doors x trucks per door per day. Use the door outage. The Recommend line suggests moving trucks to the day with spare capacity, says how many cannot be moved, and says the dock manager decides. Under 90 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Forgetting the door outage. The AI uses 6 doors every day. Try: Say: "Door 5 is out Tue and Wed, so those days have 5 doors."
  • Moving more than there is room for. The AI moves all 16 extra trucks to Monday. Try: Say: "Say how many trucks the spare capacity can take and how many cannot be moved."
  • Wrong lines. The AI writes a paragraph. Try: Quote the four labels in order.
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Quotes the four labels
  • Gives the capacity formula
  • Uses the outage
  • Names who decides
  • Asks for plain text
