Rank five work orders by safety, then production impact, then age
- For Operations and supply chain

- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write a prompt for a markdown table with columns Rank, Work order and Why, five rows from rank 1 to 5. Rank by these rules: injury-risk items first, then items stopping or slowing production, then the rest, oldest first. Within the injury-risk group, oldest first. Under 110 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Ranking by age only. The AI puts WO-105 first as the oldest item. Try: Say: "Injury-risk items first, then production, then the rest."
- Reversing oldest first. The AI puts the newest first within a group. Try: Say: "Oldest first within each group."
- Following the line lead. The AI puts WO-103 above WO-105 based on the comment. Try: Say: "Among the rest, the longest open ranks higher."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the table columns
- Gives the three groups
- Says oldest first
- Keeps Why short
- Sets a length limit
