Work out oven batches per day, the shortfall and the overtime needed
- For Operations and supply chain
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write a prompt for plain text with exactly four lines: "Per day:", "Shortfall:", "Overtime needed:" and "Check:". Batches must finish inside the working time, so round batches down for a day and round the batches needed up for overtime. Show the math. The Check line says the ops manager approves overtime. Under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Rounding the shortfall down. The AI says 2 batches (2 hours) is enough. Try: Say: "Round the batches needed UP to whole batches."
- Using fractional batches. The AI counts 12.5 batches in the day. Try: Say: "Whole batches only."
- Wrong lines. The AI writes a paragraph. Try: Quote the four labels.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the labels
- Uses whole batches
- Shows the math
- Names the approver
