About this exercise

Write a prompt for plain text with exactly five lines: "Current:", "Proposed:", "Savings:", "Net per month:" and "Flag:". Add up the per-shipment parts on the first two lines and show the math. Net per month is the monthly savings minus the machine lease. The Flag line must say the damage rate rose in the trial and that the ops manager decides. Under 100 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Forgetting the lease. The AI reports $840 a month as the saving. Try: Say: "Net per month: savings x 12,000 minus the $150 lease."
  • Believing the rep. The AI says damage is basically the same. Try: Say: "Flag the trial damage rates, 1.0% vs 1.5%."
  • Math not shown. The AI states costs without adding the parts. Try: Say: "Add the four parts and show it."
  • Wrong lines. The AI writes a pros and cons list. Try: Quote the five labels in order.
  • Markdown extras and long output. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings" and cap each line, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Quotes the five labels
  • Shows the sums
  • Subtracts the lease
  • Flags damage and who decides
  • Asks for plain text
