About this exercise

Write a prompt for plain text with exactly four lines: "Site A:", "Site A without transfer:", "Site B:" and "Check:". Productivity is units per FTE-day (units / (FTEs x days worked)). Show the math. The Check line says which site is higher on each basis and that the director decides which basis to use. Under 100 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Comparing raw totals. The AI says Reno is 33% more productive. Try: Say: "Productivity = units / (FTEs x days worked)."
  • Ignoring the transfer. The AI uses 120,000 only. Try: Say: "Add a line for Site A without the 6,000-unit transfer."
  • Picking a basis. The AI decides which number to report. Try: Say: "The operations director decides the basis."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Quotes the four labels
  • Gives the formula
  • Uses 114,000
  • Leaves the basis to the director
  • Asks for plain text
