Summarize a service contract for the facilities manager
- For Managers and team leads
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write a prompt for a summary to Dee Hart, the facilities manager, with exactly four lines starting "What we get:", "Cost:", "Act by:" and "Ask legal about:". Show the cost math and the notice date math. Report what the contract says; do not say what it legally means. Plain text, under 110 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the notice date. The AI says 'before the term ends'. Try: Say: "Act by: the last day to give notice, 60 days before June 30."
- Interpreting the clauses. The AI says the termination fee is reasonable or enforceable. Try: Say: "Do not say what they legally mean or whether to renew."
- Cost without math. The AI gives only the monthly fee. Try: Say: "Show the monthly fee x 24 months."
- Wrong lines. The AI writes a paragraph. Try: Quote the four labels.
- Markdown extras and long output. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings" and cap each line, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the four labels
- Asks for the cost math
- Asks for the notice date
- Keeps legal items as questions
- Asks for plain text
