About this exercise
Write a prompt for plain text with exactly five lines: "Q-1:" to "Q-4:" and "Action:". Today is March 10. Each quote line shows the expiry date worked out, then VALID or EXPIRED and how many days left or ago. The Action line names the quotes to ask for re-confirmation and says the buyer decides next steps. Under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Assuming all valid. The AI agrees with the requester because they were quoted this quarter. Try: Say: "Work out each expiry date and show it."
- Calendar errors. The AI forgets February has 28 days. Try: Say: "February has 28 days; Feb 5 + 30 days = Mar 7."
- Wrong lines. The AI writes a table. Try: Quote the five labels.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the five labels
- Gives today's date
- Asks to show expiry math
- Leaves decision to the buyer
- Asks for plain text
