Explain inflation to a 9th grader in four sentences
- For High school students
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Your cousin is a 9th grader and asked what inflation is. Get an explanation of at most 4 sentences, plain text, that uses the lemonade stand example from your notes, uses no word she hasn't met, and ends with one question she can answer to check herself.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the textbook wording. The AI repeats the dense definition, which a 9th grader can't use. Try: Say: "For a 9th grader, no words she hasn't met."
- Missing the correction. Your own note says any price rise is inflation. Try: Add: "It means prices rising across many things, per Ms. Rivera."
- No self-check question. The AI ends with a friendly summary instead. Try: Say: "End with one question she can answer."
- No sentence limit. The AI keeps going until the idea feels complete. Try: Say: "At most 4 sentences."
- Forgetting where it's going. AI formats for a screen, with bold and headings that show up as stray symbols. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 12 words."
