Find the gap in your own explanation of osmosis
- For College students
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
You tried to explain osmosis in your own words. Get exactly 3 lines starting Got right:, Mixed up: and Try this:, one sentence each, under 90 words, plain text. Compare only to the textbook definition, and do NOT give a corrected explanation. Try this must be a question.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Getting a corrected version. The AI writes the right definition, which you then copy. Try: Say: "Do NOT give a corrected explanation."
- Vague praise. The AI says 'good start' without naming what's off. Try: Add: "Mixed up must name what my explanation leaves out."
- No fixed lines. Without labels you get a long review. Try: Say: "Three lines: Got right:, Mixed up:, Try this:"
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 12 words."
- Forgetting where it's going. AI formats for a screen, with bold and headings that show up as stray symbols. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the three labels
- Compares to the textbook
- Bans the corrected version
