About this exercise

Write a glossary of five terms from the memo for a business reader, as numbered lines in this form: "1. Term: meaning in plain words, then the memo's date". Use the order the terms appear in the memo. Each line under 25 words. Plain text. Explain what the term means, not how the case will turn out.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Outcome hinted. The AI says what is likely to happen. Try: Say: "Explain meaning only, not outcomes."
  • Dates missing. The AI defines terms without the memo's dates. Try: Say: "Add the memo's date for each term."
  • Jargon in definitions. The AI defines terms with more legal terms. Try: Say: "Plain words for a business reader."
  • Wrong list. The AI picks other terms or wrong order. Try: Say: "Five numbered terms in the memo's order."
  • Wrong number of items. The AI adds or drops items. Try: Say: "Exactly N numbered items, nothing else."
  • Markdown. The AI bolds words or adds headings. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
