About this exercise

Compare a vendor's questionnaire with the reviewer's notes on its attachments. Write a prompt for plain text with four labeled sections in this order: Stated:, Contradicted:, Missing:, then a last line starting "Next step for the risk owner:". Under 200 words. Contradicted means the attachments disagree with the questionnaire. Do not approve or reject the vendor.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Sections merged. AI blends stated and contradicted items into one list. Try: List the three section labels in order and define each.
  • Contradictions without the facts. AI says 'certificate issue' without the date or the clause. Try: Say: "One line per contradiction: the answer, then the attachment fact with dates."
  • Approving or rejecting. AI ends with a recommendation to proceed or decline. Try: Say: "Last line proposes one clarification request; do not approve or reject."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold, headings and bullets by default, which show up as stray symbols when pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Defines contradicted
